iPhone: copy & paste

Thanks to the efforts of developers willing to let loose their applications to the public free of charge, and the efforts of Jay Freeman (@saurik) who created Cydia, an apt-get based system for installing apps, I can copy and paste text quite easily on the iPhone. The app is called Clippy, and it is the most seamless way to copy/paste I have ever seen on a handheld device. Since it was recently updated and I was pretty impressed, I thought I would post some screenshots.

First up, the menu. All you do is double-tap and hold your finger down on the second tap, and the clippy menu pops up:

As you can see you can copy, cut, paste, and view the clipboard stack, of previously copied text. The stack looks like this:

Also, if I had chosen cut instead of stack from that first pop-up menu, the screen would have looked like this:

It’s pretty awesome to be able to do this, considering it’s not available to regular iPhones. I have to say, whoever is responsible for making this application has done a really great job putting it together, working out the bugs, and making a nice final product. You really have to hand it to people like that who are willing to donate their time and code to make something this cool happen.
